Under 14 match report vs bulldogs

A great day welcomed everybody to the Showgrounds on sunday for the local derby against the bulldogs.
The young giants were keen to get their 1st win for the season but knew they would have play their best footy to achieve that goal.
The 1st quarter started with both team fierce at the ball, backman playing forward Ace Manger kicking the Giants only goal and the quarter ended with the bulldogs holding a 6 point lead.
The 2nd quarter saw the giants gain some ascendancy, kicking 4 goals to nill, taking a 18 point lead into half time, Ben Milner, Harry Dewinne, Kane Clark and Angus Burston holding firm in the backline, the quarter was soured with injuries to key onballers Colby Mathieson (arm) and Ed Miechel (nose).
The 3rd quarter continued the tight affair with both teams kicking 2 goals each, Matt Johnston getting on top in the ruck, Dan Hurley, Ben Davies and Liam Thivillier offering plenty of run while Jasper Defazio along with Tyler McGregor starting to look dangerous up forward, a huge last quarter was to come next.
The bulldogs started the last quarter best, kicking the 1st 2 goals to get the margin back to 10 points and looking like they were getting on top, but with Charlie McCarthy moved back on ball he changed the course of the game with a fantastic individual quarter, leading the Giants, along with Charlie Dewinne and Max Cullen to kick the next 6 goals to to run out winners by 48 points in a game that was a lot closer than the final margin indicated
